We’ve all heard about. The holy grail of Instagram that is ten thousand followers. All kinds of things happen to your profile when you reach 10k followers. People take your Instagram account seriously and realise you might know what you’re talking about in whatever niche you happen to be in if you have a high follower count.
Not only that, but Instagram actually unlocks special features for your account and paid opportunities are within your grasp. But did you know that only 11 percent of Instagram accounts ever get to 10k?
Only 11 percent of Instagram accounts ever get to 10k
That’s a very low figure, but clearly indicates the difficulty of acquiring that follower level even with an active social presence (which many people admittedly have). Allegedly, once you have achieved this, then going from 10,001 – 50,000 followers is much easier due to the ‘proof’ having ten thousand instagram followers.
What will i get from Instagram after hitting 10k followers?
If fakers are to be believed you’ll be rewarded with a pre-taken photo collection, hashtag optimisations, influencer contacts and maybe even a brand new Instagram account populated with posts, comments, likes and shares…the reality is, you won’t get any of this. All that will happen is that you’ll receive the ability to attach direct links to your stories (you know that swipe up link). So, instead of saying “Check the link in my bio” you can directly link to articles, photos, or anything you can hit with a URL such as tagging brands or products. Pretty neat and is said to increase engagement level, but probably not exactly worth all the hype it gets.
The major advantage of this is that you can share blog posts/content directly with followers who are interested and if you are talking about something (a news article, a video, podcast etc) it’s a lot easier to give context without having to explain in detail what you’re talking about.
So how do you get to 10k followers?

Long Form Content
Long form is content that exceeds normal word limits. It the kind of content most larger companies with dedicated content producers invest in. Long-form content is making a comeback on social media, with brands writing extended Instagram captions and producing lengthier video material for their ’reels’ feature. When you have thousands of followers imagine them all reading your long form content via Instagram stories, social or a blog post – it’s highly likely they engage further the more engaging your copy is.
Why Only 10% of Your Facebook Followers See Your Posts
Many business owners spend thousands of dollars each year to build their audience through Instagram followers and Facebook likes. The logic seems simple – the more Likes your business page gets, the more people you’ll be able to reach. The truth is, even if you have accumulated a ton of organic followers, the number of people who will actually see your content is much smaller than it appears.
Let’s say you’ve obtained 1,000 Likes on your Facebook page. It stands to reason that every time you post content to that page, all 1,000 people will see it. However, the reality is that each post will only be shown to about 10% (or less) of your followers.
If you’d want the remaining 90% of your Facebook followers to see your content, you’ll have to pull out the same wallet you used to buy all those Likes and pay Facebook to “boost” your posts.
Implementing the above should increase your chances on engaging your ideal followers and nailing those social media marketing goals. Increasing your instagram followers is and will always be a difficult task, but, if you take the time to learn about your ideal follower and implement that knowledge when planning content to match their requirements as closely as possible then you shouldn’t have a problem acquiring a larger audience.
